How to add a table of contents to your blog post
DropInBlog automatically generates a table of contents (TOC) from your post’s H2 and H3 headings.
However, you can decide whether you want to turn this feature on or off.
The video below will show you everything you need to know about DropInBlog's table of contents feature.
We've also included the written tutorial after the video in case this is your preferred method of exploring all that's possible with DropInBlog.
To make the table of contents visible in your blog post, open the post editor first. Then, look for the table of contents section on the right side of the screen.
If this option is grayed out, toggle the switch to turn the TOC on.
To turn the table of contents off, toggle the switch again. Don’t forget to save your changes.
One of the great things about the table of contents is that it updates automatically. So, when you add H2s and H3s to your posts, the TOC will reflect these changes instantly.
Note that you can’t edit the TOC element itself but can only make changes to it by adding and editing your post’s text.
Another thing you can do with the table of contents is move it. Drag the TOC and drop it where you want to place it.
You can also decide whether you want the table of contents to be shown or hidden in the live version of your post.
If you save or publish your post with the TOC open, it will remain open in the article preview or the live version and vice versa.
Another thing you can change is the link color of your TOC.
To do that, go to Code & Layout, and under Advanced → Design Customizations, find the Link Color field.
Click in the Link Color field to see some suggested colors, or type in the hex code you'd like to use.
Upon selecting a new link color, scroll down to the bottom of the section, and click Save Design Customizations.
You can also name your table of contents differently by visiting Settings, and under Main Settings, locating the Table of contents title field.
Name it as you wish, and click the Save All Changes button below.
One thing to note is that you can add content before the TOC if you place it at the very top of your post.
Simply hover over the TOC element and you’ll see an arrow pointing to the left.
Clicking on it will add a line above the TOC.
That’s everything you need to know about DropInBlog’s table of contents.
Happy blogging!
