Add a DropInBlog Blog to Squarespace
All DropInBlog needs on Squarespace is an Embed block on a new page. You manage your posts and blog settings in DropInBlog, while the blog itself appears on your existing Squarespace site. The setup process only takes a few minutes.
How to Install DropInBlog on Squarespace
The setup has three parts: creating the blog page, adding the blog code, and connecting the page to DropInBlog.
Create Your Blog Page
- In your Squarespace account, click Website to open the editor, then go to Website → Pages.
- Click the plus sign next to Main navigation, select Blank page from the dropdown, change the default “New Page” title to how you want to name your blog, and press Enter.
Add the Blog Code
- Click Edit in the page builder, then click Add Section → + Add Blank.
- Inside the new section, click + Add Block, scroll down to the Basic section, and click Embed. Drag the resize handle to make it full-width.
- Click the pencil icon on the Embed block, switch Embed as to Code Snippet, and select Embed data.
- Copy the code under Blog Script from the Code & Layout page in DropInBlog, and paste it into the Embed data pop-up.
- Copy the code under Blog Container from the same page, and paste it below the Blog Script code.
- Click Save in the top-right of the editor, then exit it.
Connect Your Blog Page
- Select the blog page in the menu on the left, click the arrow at the top-right to preview it, and copy the page link.
- Go back to DropInBlog’s Code & Layout page and click the Verify Integration button. If asked, paste the link to your blog page, then click Check Integration. When the check passes, DropInBlog confirms your blog is live.
Where Your Squarespace Blog Lives
The posts themselves are stored on DropInBlog’s servers, and Squarespace shows them on your domain, on the page you just created. If you named it “blog,” it will use the following URL structure:
your-domain-name/blog
The URLs of individual blog posts follow this structure:
your-domain-name/blog?p=blog-post-title
You can drop the ?p= later with the SEO Supercharger, described at the end of Verifying the Integration.
What About the Blog I Already Have on Squarespace
Adding DropInBlog doesn’t change your Squarespace blog, and the posts from it stay live until you unpublish or delete them. You can also move them to DropInBlog:
- Export your blog from Squarespace by going to Settings → Website → Import/Export Content → Export → WordPress → Download. If you have more than one blog, you’ll be asked to select one.
- Squarespace exports content in an XML file. Convert it to CSV before moving on to the next step.
- In DropInBlog, open the Import / Export page, click the upload button under Blog Post CSV, and add the file with your exported content, then click Map CSV Fields.
- Map the uploaded content with DropInBlog’s fields, then click Import.
- In Squarespace, create 301 redirects for old blog post URLs by going to Settings → Developer Tools → URL Mappings.
Verifying the Integration
To test the integration, create a new post for your Squarespace blog:
- Open the Posts page in your DropInBlog account, then click Add Blog Post to open the DropInBlog editor.
- Add your content, select the Published option under Status, and click Save Post.
- Use the View Blog link in the top right to open your blog page.
- Find the post you’ve just published and check whether all elements are displayed correctly, including text, images, and links.
One More Step: Turn On the SEO Supercharger
Once your test post displays correctly, the blog is ready for readers, and Google can index it as is. Some crawlers and link previews skip the step that loads your posts in the browser, though, so they don’t see the content.
The SEO Supercharger fixes that by serving every post as flat static HTML. You also get cleaner URLs, faster loading times, and a sitemap that updates with every new post. You only need to set it up once, and it’s included in your plan.

Styling
By default, your blog pages match the fonts and colors of your Squarespace site. If you want to style your blog further, you can do so from the Code & Layout page of your DropInBlog account:
- For small design edits, go to Design → Design Customizations.
- For CSS-based changes, use Custom CSS in the Advanced Options section below Design.
- For blog layouts, use Blog Layout in the same Advanced Options section.
Troubleshooting
If your blog isn’t showing up, check these first:
- Check that you used the Embed block, not the Code block. If you used the latter, delete it, add an Embed block, and paste your code there.
- Check that you pasted your blog code into the Code Snippet tab. If you added it into the Link tab, the blog won’t work. If your blog code is located in the Link tab, delete it, switch to the Code Snippet tab, and paste it there.
- Make sure the Embed block contains both lines of code from your DropInBlog account. If one is missing, copy it and paste it into Squarespace.
- Check that you saved the changes after adding your blog code. If not, add your code and click the Save button.
- Check the page while logged out. As a security measure, Squarespace sometimes hides embedded code while you’re logged in. Open your blog page in a private window to see what visitors see.
- Check that the link of your blog page matches the link on DropInBlog’s Settings page. If it doesn’t, copy your blog’s link and paste it into the Settings page under Blog URL, then click Save Settings.

Limitations
Since your posts come from DropInBlog, some Squarespace blog features don’t apply to them:
- Your posts aren’t Squarespace blog posts. They won’t appear in a Squarespace blog collection, its category and tag features, or your Squarespace RSS feed. Solved: DropInBlog has its own categories and RSS feed. Find the feed in Settings, below Blog URL.
- Squarespace search won’t find them. Site search looks at Squarespace content, and your posts live on DropInBlog. Solved: DropInBlog’s Instant Search searches every post on your blog.
- Squarespace’s sitemap won’t include them. Squarespace generates its sitemap from its own pages. Solved: submit DropInBlog’s sitemap to Google Search Console instead.
- There are fewer content filtering options. Content archives in Squarespace let you group published content by author, date, tag, and category. Solved: organize your posts with DropInBlog categories, and readers can browse each category and each author’s posts on their own pages.
- There’s no alternative social sharing image. Squarespace lets you add an alternative sharing image. DropInBlog uses only the post’s featured image.
