Blog settings
On the Settings page of your DropInBlog account, you can choose the fields you want to show in your posts, enable search functionality, and show related posts at the end of individual blog posts – among other things.
Here, you’ll learn about the features and appearance settings you can control from the Settings page.
This article doesn’t cover the following settings, for which we have separate how-to guides:
SEO Supercharger (with Cloudflare connection)
Customizing the default text fields on your blog
At the top of the Settings page, you’ll find the Blog URL section. This is the full URL of the home page (landing page) of your blog. It is where the summaries of all your posts will show. Your Blog URL must start with http:// or https://.
In some cases, you’ll need this URL to integrate your main website with your DropInBlog account.
Below your blog’s homepage link, you can generate a sitemap for your blog by clicking the XML Sitemap option.
Selecting this option will open a popup window with your blog’s XML sitemap code, which you can then add to your sitemaps.xml file.
Next to XML Sitemap, you’ll find the Social Feeds (RSS) & Atom links. Each of these will generate various feeds from your blog which you can use to share your content on social media.
The Main Settings section is where you can adjust a couple of settings, including the pagination type and post count.
The first field you’ll see in the Main Settings section on the Settings page is Pagination type. DropInBlog allows you to choose your preferred pagination style – Next/Previous or Numbers – by selecting the preferred option from the dropdown.
You can also set the number of posts you want to be shown per page (1).
Additionally, you can customize the number of characters in a post summary (2). The default value is 150 characters, but you can easily change this by entering the desired character number.
From the Main Settings section on the Settings page, you can also add the URL of your main site’s CSS.
If you add your CSS URL to this field, the DropInBlog editor will take on the styling of your main website, including the font family, font sizes, link colors, and more.
Adding your main site’s CSS URL helps you see how your blog posts will look with your site’s styling applied, giving you a clearer preview while editing your posts. If you have more than one CSS file on your main site you can add them all here separated by commas.
Right below the Main Settings section, you’ll see the Home Page Output section.
Here you can customize your blog’s homepage by editing the heading (1), adding a description (2), and/or uploading a background image (3).
The image below shows an example heading, description, and background image.
To see what these changes look like, select View Blog on the right side of your main navigation menu.
This is how it turned out for us.
To change the background image you selected, click on Select Image to upload a new one. If you want to remove the background image from your blog, simply click on Remove below the image.
To avoid having stretched-out images, we recommend uploading an image that’s at least 1200 pixels wide.
Below the Home Page Output section, you’ll see the Output settings.
Here is where you can adjust the fields you want to be shown on your blog’s homepage, category pages, and posts.
First, you’ll see two columns with fields that you can show or hide.
By toggling the switch next to the fields from the column on the left, you control the fields that will be shown in your blog posts.
The image below shows what your post would look like if you enabled all the fields in the left column.
Feel free to experiment with these fields until you’re happy with how your posts look.
The column on the right lets you choose which fields will be shown on your blog’s homepage and category pages.
By default, most of these fields will be set to show, but you can turn these fields on or off by simply toggling the switch next to the field you want to show or hide.
The image below is an example of a blog homepage with the Featured Image field turned off.
Again, experiment with these fields to find the output you like.
Below the two columns with post fields, you have the option to reorder the fields.
All DropInBlog fields are divided into three categories: Featured Image, Post Title, and Post Info, which includes all the other elements like post author, published date, and read time.
You can easily reorder these field categories by dragging and dropping them in the order in which you want them to show.
From the Output settings section, you can also choose whether you want to show blog categories on your homepage, category pages, and blog posts.
Switching the toggle below Category main menu page (1) will display a menu bar with your blog categories on your blog homepage and category pages while switching the toggle below Category menu post page (2) will show categories on your blog post pages.
You also have the option to choose the category menu style: list or dropdown.
Selecting the List view will display a horizontal bar menu at the top of the page, as shown in the image below.
Choosing the Dropdown view will display your blog’s categories in a dropdown menu, as shown in the image below.
The next feature you can turn on or off in the Output section is search.
To help your visitors navigate your blog more easily, you can turn on the search function.
If you select the Search main page (1) option, a search box will appear on your blog’s homepage and category pages.
The other option, Search post page (2), will display a search box on your post pages.
With the search function turned on, your blog visitors will see a magnifying glass icon (1) next to your category list, and, upon clicking on it, a text box will appear with the default text: Search for... (2).
Right below the search box settings, you have another feature you can enable to customize your blog’s navigation: a “back to home” link.
Switching the toggle next to Show Back To Home (1) will add a link to your blog’s homepage in the top navigation bar – to the left of your blog’s categories. This link will be shown on your blog’s category and post pages.
By default, it will show a home icon. But if you wish, you can display text instead by entering it in the Back to home text (2) field.
The Output section is also where you’ll turn Related blog posts on or off.
If you want to show related posts at the bottom of the post pages, all you have to do is toggle the switch below Related blog posts.
Upon turning this feature on, you can choose how you want to name this section by editing the Related posts title (1), select the number of related articles to show (2), and turn the individual post fields on or off by Selecting which fields you want to show in your related posts (3).
The image below shows one example of the many ways you can customize the Related Posts feature.
After customizing the fields and features in the Output section, you’ll see the SEO Settings section on the Settings page.
Here, you can add your blog’s title, and description, and adjust a few other SEO-related settings.

Enabling this feature will open a host of customization options, which you can learn about in-depth in the article dedicated to the Blog Voice AI™ feature.
In the Social Settings section, you can turn the following features on or off:
Comment System (with this feature enabled, you can utilize the commenting functionality of Facebook or Disqus)
Social Media Sharing
Highlight to Share
Read Progress Indicator
In the Localization Settings section, you can adjust the Date & time format (1), set your Timezone (2), and choose your preferred Text direction (3).
The last section on the Settings page is Advanced Settings.
Here you can list specific domains that will be allowed to embed your DropInBlog code. In most cases, you can leave this blank, but in the case you wanted to restrict the use of your DiB code to specific domains you would list them here separated by commas, e.g.: example.com, mysite.localhost, 127.0.1.1
To apply all of the changes you made, click the Save All Changes button you’ll find at the end of each section on the Settings page.
We can’t wait to see your blog now that you know how to customize and enable various fields and features on your DropInBlog account.
Happy blogging!
