Add a DropInBlog Blog to Thinkific

Installing the DropInBlog app from Thinkific’s App Store adds a blog section you can drop onto any custom page. You don’t need to create a DropInBlog account separately, as one will be created automatically after you install the app.


Before you start: to install the DropInBlog app, you need to be subscribed to Thinkific’s Basic plan or higher.

How to Install DropInBlog on Thinkific

The setup has three parts: installing the app, adding the blog to a custom page, and verifying the connection.

Install the DropInBlog App

  1. Open the Integrations tab in your Thinkific account, then click the Explore apps button.
  2. Use the search bar to find the DropInBlog app, and click the app’s listing preview to open its full listing page.
  3. Click the Install button on the left side of the page.
  4. Click Accept & Install to grant DropInBlog the necessary permissions.
  5. Invite team members to help you manage your blog by entering their email address, assigning a user role, and clicking Send Invites. To skip this for now, choose I’ll do this later.
  6. Claim the discount offer by adding your card details. At this point, the DropInBlog app is installed, and a DropInBlog account has been created for you.

Add the Blog to a Custom Page

  1. Return to your Thinkific dashboard and go to Channels → Website.
  2. Select the Custom pages tab, then click the New custom page button on the right.
  3. Enter the name of your page (for example, “blog”), then click Create page in the bottom-right to launch the page editor.
  4. Remove the banner section Thinkific adds to new pages, so your blog has more room.
  5. Click Add section in the menu on the left, scroll all the way down to DropInBlog, and click the blog section to add it to your page.
  6. Click the Save button in the upper right.
  7. Click the link icon to copy the link to your blog page.

Verify the Connection

  1. Go to the Code & Layout page of your DropInBlog account and expand the Verify Integration menu
  2. Click the Verify Integration button. 
  3. If asked, paste your blog link into the box under Paste Your Blog Page URL, then click Check Integration. You’ll see the message “Your blog is live.”

Where Your Thinkific Blog Lives

Your posts are stored in DropInBlog, and Thinkific shows them on the custom page you created. If you named it “blog,” your URLs look like this:

  • your-domain-name/pages/blog (blog homepage)
  • your-domain-name/pages/blog?p=blog-post-title (individual blog posts)

The last step of Verifying the Integration shows how to get clean post URLs.

Verifying the Integration

To check that real content shows up, publish a test post from your DropInBlog account:

  1. In your Thinkific dashboard, click the Integrations tab, find DropInBlog under your installed apps, and click Visit website. You’ll land on the Posts page of your DropInBlog account.
  2. Click Add Blog Post, add some text, an image, and a link, and publish the post.
  3. Open the post on your Thinkific site and check that the text, image, and link all display correctly.

One More Step: Turn On the SEO Supercharger

Once your test post looks right, your blog is working, and Google indexes it as it is. Some crawlers and social previews only read a page’s raw HTML, though, and miss posts that load in the browser.

Styling

Your blog picks up your Thinkific site’s fonts and colors, so it should look at home on your site. To adjust them, go to Code & Layout → Design → Design Customizations in DropInBlog. For anything else, add your own CSS under Custom CSS, in the Advanced Options section below Design.

Troubleshooting

If your blog isn’t showing up, check these first:

  • Check that you saved the page. After you add the blog section to your new Thinkific page, click the Save button in the upper right of the editor.
  • Check that your blog page visibility is set to Everyone. Click the cog icon in the editor and look under Who can see this page?
  • If you changed the URL of your blog page, contact DropInBlog support to sync the change.

If none of this helps, contact support and include a link to your blog page.

Limitations

Your posts live in DropInBlog rather than in Thinkific, which affects one Thinkific feature:

  • Thinkific’s sitemap won’t list your blog posts. Thinkific builds its sitemap automatically and doesn’t let you edit it. Solved: DropInBlog creates its own XML sitemap for your blog. Find it in Settings, below Blog URL, and submit it to Google Search Console.
