Add a DropInBlog Blog to Teachable

Installing the DropInBlog app in your Teachable school creates a DropInBlog account for you and adds a DropInBlog block to Teachable’s page editor. After installing the app, you’ll create a new page in Teachable, add the DropInBlog block, and publish your blog page. The whole process takes a few minutes.

Before you start: check that you’re building pages with the Page Editor 2.0, which supports the DropInBlog block. Every Teachable plan includes the App Hub, but the Starter plan allows only one app.

How to Install DropInBlog on Teachable

  1. From your Teachable account, open the App Hub page.
  2. Under Apps, click DropInBlog to open the app’s installation page.
  3. Click the Install button next to DropInBlog.
  4. Click Install in the pop-up to grant DropInBlog access to your school. This will open the Code & Layout page of your DropInBlog account. Keep it open for later.
  5. Go back to Teachable to create a page where your blog content will be shown by going to Site → Pages → School Pages → Add New Page.
  6. Click the gear icon next to Site Page and add the page name under Page Title.
  7. In the page editor, click the Add New Block button.
  8. Under the Apps section, click the Add button next to DropInBlog. You’ll see a preview of your blog, with four demo posts.
  9. Optionally, add a page title under Title on the left side of the page editor.
  10. You’ll see a preview of your blog, with four demo posts. Click Publish, add a slug for your blog page (for example, blog), and click Publish in the pop-up.
  11. Exit the editor and, on the Pages page, click the three dots next to your blog page, and select Copy URL Link from the dropdown.
  12. On the Code & Layout page in DropInBlog, expand the Verify Integration menu, then click the Verify Integration button below.
  13. Paste your blog’s link under Paste Your Blog Page URL, then click the Check Integration button to the right of the pasted URL. You’ll see a message that your blog is live.

Where Your Teachable Blog Lives

Your blog is hosted on DropInBlog’s servers but appears on your own domain, on the page you created. If you name your blog “blog,” the URL structure of your blog homepage looks like this:

  • your-domain-name/p/blog

The /p/ prefix is part of Teachable’s routing system and can’t be removed.

The URL structure of individual blog posts looks like this:

  • your-domain-name/p/blog/?p=blog-post-title

Your post URLs include ?p= for now. The last step of Verifying the Integration covers clean URLs.

Teachable doesn’t have a built-in blog, so there are no existing posts to move over.

Verifying the Integration

To check if your blog works as expected, follow these steps to create a new blog post:

  1. Access the DropInBlog admin from Teachable by going to App Hub → Installed Apps → DropInBlog.
  2. On the following page, click Manage Account.
  3. You’ll be directed to the Posts page of your DropInBlog account. Here, click Add Blog Post.
  4. Add your content and publish your blog post by selecting the Published option under Status.
  5. Click the View Blog button in the top right.
  6. Find your new blog post and open it to confirm the post loads properly and includes text, images, links, and all other elements you added in DropInBlog’s editor.

One More Step: Turn On the SEO Supercharger

Your blog is live, and Google indexes your client-side rendered posts as they are. Some other crawlers and link previewers only read a page’s raw HTML, though.

Turning on the SEO Supercharger serves your posts as flat static HTML for those too, with faster loading, better previews when shared, and clean URLs that drop ?p=. It comes with a one-time setup and is included in every DropInBlog plan.

Follow the SEO Supercharger guide to set it up.

Styling

Your blog picks up your Teachable site’s design automatically, so it should look native out of the box. On the Code & Layout page of your DropInBlog account, under Design → Design Customizations, you’ll see that design elements, such as link color and font family, are set to Inherit. Use the option menus under Design Customizations to change the default values.

For advanced customization, go to the Advanced Options section below Design on the Code & Layout page, then add your own CSS under Custom CSS.

Troubleshooting

If your blog isn’t showing up, check these first:

  • Check whether your Teachable site has a page containing the DropInBlog block. If it doesn’t, go to Site → Pages → School Pages → Add New Page and add the DropInBlog block.
  • Check that the page uses the Page Editor 2.0. The DropInBlog block only works on Page Editor 2.0 pages. Teachable’s Which page editor do I have? article shows how to tell.
  • Make sure you published your page after adding the DropInBlog block. If you haven’t, return to the page editor and click the Publish button.
  • Check that the DropInBlog app is still installed. Uninstalling the app removes the DropInBlog block from all your pages. If it’s missing from App Hub → Installed Apps, install it again and add the block back to your blog page.
  • Check that the blog page URL in Teachable matches the blog page URL in DropInBlog. In Teachable, click the three dots next to your blog page and select Copy URL Link. Go to DropInBlog and paste the page link into the Settings page under Blog URL.

Limitations

There are some limits to using DropInBlog for your Teachable blog:

  • On Teachable’s Starter plan, you can install only one app, so DropInBlog takes your only app slot. Solved: the Builder plan allows three apps, and Growth allows five.
  • Teachable’s Starter plan doesn’t include custom domains, which the SEO Supercharger needs. Solved: custom domains are available on the Builder plan and above.
  • Your blog doesn’t use Teachable’s built-in comments. Solved: add comments with DropInBlog’s native Disqus integration, or another commenting system through a Smart Snippet™.
  • DropInBlog’s product embeds don’t work with Teachable products. Solved: promote your courses in blog posts with Smart Snippets™, CTAs, and simple links.
  • You can’t use Teachable’s built-in translation feature for your blog posts. Solved: to create your blog content in another language, use DropInBlog’s HTML integration.
  • Teachable’s support doesn’t troubleshoot third-party apps. Solved: DropInBlog support handles every DropInBlog-related request. Include a link to your blog page when you get in touch.
