DropInBlog integration guide for SamCart

In this guide, you’ll find the steps for installing a blog on your SamCart site. To do that, you’ll create a new landing page in SamCart and add the blog code from your DropInBlog account. When you publish your blog to SamCart, you’ll need to verify the integration, and after that, you can start adding new blog posts from the DropInBlog admin panel.

Prerequisites

For this integration, you’ll need the following:

  • A paid SamCart account
  • A DropInBlog account (you can create one with a free trial)

Once you create accounts on both platforms, you can start the integration process.

Integration steps

To create a blog on SamCart with DropInBlog, follow these steps:

  1. Create a new page in SamCart
  2. Add a navigation menu to your new page (optional)
  3. Add the embed element with your DropInBlog code
  4. Verify the integration

Step 1: Create a new page in SamCart

Log in to your SamCart account, select the Sites tab, then click on the Create New button on the right. From the dropdown that appears, select Landing Page.

A new slide-out window will open where you should add the name of your page, like “blog” or “news.” The URL Slug field will be automatically set based on the page name. Then, click on Create Page to proceed to the next screen.

On the following page, select a blank template, then click on Next to proceed.

Step 2: Add a navigation menu to your new page (optional)

Before you enter SamCart’s editor, you’ll have the option to add some of its pre-built page sections. We suggest adding the navigation section because you’re starting with a blank template that doesn’t include any menus. If you want visitors to see other pages on your site when they land on your blog, you need to add and customize the navigation section. To do this, select the navigation section by clicking on it, then click on the Done? Start editing button.

Doing so will take you to SamCart’s page editor. Select the navigation section by clicking on it to customize the default buttons and text.

This section contains a logo, navigation settings, and a button. You can remove the logo and navigation settings and leave only the button that directs your visitors to your site’s homepage or any other page.

To add a link to your button, hover over it, then click on the cog icon to open the button settings.

This will open a new window, where you should paste the URL of the page you want to add to the page menu. Select Done, and you’re ready for the next step.

Step 3: Add the Embed element with your DropInBlog code

The next step is to add the embed element to your blog page, then paste the code you’ll find in your DropInBlog account. But first, you need to add a new page section. You’ll do that by clicking on the plus sign under the previous section.

After you’ve added a new section, type in a forward slash or click on the plus sign to open the elements menu. Find Embed, and add it by clicking on it.

The embed element type will be set to Link by default, but you need to change it to Code Snippet. In the text box below, you’ll add your DropInBlog code.

Open the Code & Layout page of your DropInBlog account, and click on the copy button under Blog Script.

Return to SamCart, and paste that code inside the Code Snippet text box.

Go back to DropInBlog again, and now copy the code under Blog Container.

Return to SamCart and paste the code below the first line of code you added here. You’ll see a preview of your new blog.

Click on Done to close the code snippet window, then click on Publish in the top right to save the changes.

Use the following pop-up screen to view your SamCart blog page.

Step 4: Verify the integration

The last step of the integration is to check whether everything works properly. For this step, you’ll go to the Code & Layout page and click on the Verify Integration button.

If you haven’t viewed your blog page yet, you’ll see an additional field where you’ll need to paste its URL.

If everything is set up correctly, you’ll get a message that your blog is live.

Now that your SamCart blog is live, you should start adding content to your account. You’ll be doing this from the Posts page of your DropInBlog account.

Troubleshooting

If the blog doesn’t show on your SamCart site, make sure that none of the following is the reason behind this:

  • You used the Code element instead of the Embed element.
  • You set the Element type to Link instead of Code Snippet.
  • You didn’t publish your SamCart site after finishing the blog integration.

After you’ve checked all these items on your troubleshooting list, and your blog still isn’t visible on your SamCart site, reach out to us from this page.
